The water you don't see---> can create mold

1/24/2022 (Permalink)

Many people try to "dry" and "clean up" water damages after they occur in their basements, laundry rooms, or even bathrooms. We understand, all of us here at SERVPRO love to save money. But the real question is...are you actually saving money?

Most of the time you are costing yourself a lot more money in the long run when you try and do it yourself. Why is that you may ask?

Well, from our experience it's the water you can't see to clean up and dry that is causing mold. Most of the time, insurance policies don't cover mold, and mold damage can be extremely expensive to clean up. Much more expensive than water damage.

If your home or business has a water problem, let us take care of it. We know how to make it "Like it never even happened."

3. The potential for mold growth.

4. The loss of personal valuable and beloved belonging.

5. Increase in insurance.

One of the keys to mitigation is our immediate response!

The quicker you call, THE BETTER!

1. Less wood and drywall saturation

2. Less delamination

3. Reduced carpet and furniture stains

4. Fewer warping hardwood floors

5. Less mold/mildew

6. Less contents damage

Give us a call TODAY at 812-895-0581 for you mitigation services.

Mold, do you have it?

11/9/2021 (Permalink)

Fungi and mold naturally occur in our environment. In fact, over 100,000 kinds of fungi have been identified.

Fungi produce some very useful results. Yeast is a type of fungi used in preparing breads, baked goods and other food products, including some alcoholic beverages. The unique flavor of blue cheese is a result of mold. An edible mushroom is simply a type of fungi, and lifesaving penicillin is a product of mold (Penicillin chrysogenum).

Even though some forms of mold can add value to our lives, other forms can be harmful. Excessive amounts of mold, different types of mold, and/or exposure to molds may present health effects for some people.

If you think you might have a mold problem, call (812)-895-0581. SERVPRO of Vincennes is trained in mold remediation and will examine the structure for any visible signs of mold.

Sewage Backup

8/25/2021 (Permalink)

Sewage backup is not a fun problem to have. Sewage is  considered category 3 water. Did you know that there are different types of water.

Category 1: "Clean Water"

Category 1 water is from a clean source like a broken water supply line or leaking faucet. If not treated quickly, this water can turn into category 2 or 3, depending on the length of time, temperature, and contact with surrounding contaminants.

Category 2: "Gray Water"

Category 2 water is contaminated and could cause discomfort or illness. Examples include washing machine overflow; toilet overflow with some urine, but no feces; or dishwasher overflow.

Category 3: "Black Water"

Category 3 water is grossly contaminated and could cause severe illness or death if ingested and any contact should be avoided. Examples include flooding from rivers or stream, water from beyond the toilet trap, water from the toilet bowl with feces, or standing water that has begun to support microbial growth.

Sewage back up is considered category 3.

Flooded basement?

7/1/2021 (Permalink)

Do you have a basement that could flood? A basement can flood at any time, although flooding most often occurs during heavy rainfall. Basements are inherently prone to flooding because they are the lowest level of a building and are normally built partly or entirely below ground level. When buying a home, most people would not know what to look for when it comes to the potential of a flooded basement. The following are some things to look for:

  • A blocked or failed sewer lateral pipe
  • Heavy rain causes surface water to pool around your home
  • Storm sewer backup
  • Sanitary sewer backup
  • Foundation drainage failure
  • Water supply-line break or hot-water tank failure
  • And many more

If flood water is not handled quickly and properly, it can jeopardize your health and safety, and cause severe damage to your home!

Freezing Temperatures=Frozen/Busted Pipes

2/11/2021 (Permalink)

Frozen/Busted Pipes

Cold weather is here and it appears it will be sticking around for awhile. Which means one thing for our business...busted pipes. This time of the year we are swamped. When the temperatures are so low for so long, it causes a lot of water damages in homes and businesses. Rest assured, we've got your back. Our teams are trained well and prepared for this.

Our team will be immediately dispatched and begin the extraction process by using both a portable and a truck-mounted extraction machine. As is standard with any water damage situation, we applied an antimicrobial spray to inhibit mold growth. The crew will also set air movers and dehumidifiers to accelerate the drying process.

We don't wish water damage upon anyone, but unfortunately it is as inevitable part of home ownership.

Give SERVPRO of Vincennes a call today (812)-895-0581 we've got your back.

Sump Pump Failure = Water Damage

11/14/2020 (Permalink)

Storm Damage can cause more than just your typical "storm damage"...most times it causes water damage too.

From our experience, a storm with a power outage cause sump pump failure..sump pump failure typically means water in your basement. Storm damage can also mean broken windows causing rain water to get inside you home. Either from the window or even from the walls. Be mindful of warnings vs. watches...help get your home prepared for the storm.

If you have water damage from a storm...you know who to call!

WATCH:

A severe thunderstorm watch means that the potential exists for the development of thunderstorms which may produce large hail or damaging winds. A watch is issued by the SPC (Storm Prediction Center).

Warning:

A severe thunderstorm warning means that a severe thunderstorm is occurring or is imminent based on Doppler radar information or a reliable spotter report. A warning is issued but the local National Weather Service office.

Water Damage ----> Mold Damage

9/14/2020 (Permalink)

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

My Floor is Covered in Water....HELP!!

3/1/2019 (Permalink)

Nobody ever anticipates water damage. We all think "that won't happen to me." But unfortunately it's actually pretty common.

It may have started out as innocent bath time playfulness, an accidental spill or small leak. Suddenly, you are surrounded by water on the floor, moving towards walls, crevices, and other access points to reach the lowest level of their home.

You reach for the towels, wet vac, mops and fans to clean up the water and the phone to contact you. You clean up the surface water and believe everything will be okay and the problem is solved. Or, is it? What happened to the water that traveled into the floor, subfloors and walls? Was all the moisture caused by the incident removed? Water intrusion in a home can leave subtle, yet lasting effects if not completely removed from the structure. Removing standing water with appropriate precautions can prevent further damage. But, who removes water and moisture in the flooring and walls of your home?

We do. SERVPRO of Vincennes is here to help you. Let us take care of your problem.

Did your toilet overflow? Do you now have water damage?

9/10/2018 (Permalink)

Most people don't know that there are different types of water. Some types are completely harmless and other types are extremely dangerous.

Water damage can be classified by the three types of contaminated water. A SERVPRO of Vincennes professional will inspect your home or business to determine the appropriate plan of action for the type of water encountered.

State Farm Insurance-Tammy Wilson’s Office

State Farm Insurance

The festive tree and beautiful paint colors make this office so warm and welcoming. As soon as you walk in the door, there are four friendly faces: Tammy, Kim, Tracy, and Jordan. I can always tell that this is a tight-knit office that values family. The late Kelly Jones opened the original office in 2003; he will always be missed. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Kim and Tracy to talk about their office and a few of their favorite things. Kim and Tracy are both busy mothers balancing work life and home life. You can tell they do both very well.

State Farm offers auto, home, life, and health insurance, as well as a full line bank.

What is your favorite music?

Tracy: Pop

Kim: Country

Where are you most likely to order lunch from?

“That is so hard because we have debates every day. Bobes or Dots are usually our main two.” –Tracy

What is one of your favorite things about Knox County?

Both Kim and Tracy agreed that the small town atmosphere is what they love the most.

Do you have a favorite festival or event in the area?

“Definitely (Lincoln) homecoming!” –Tracy

As an insurance company, what are you most proud of?

“Customer service.” –Kim

What is one thing that many people don’t know about your office?

“A lot of people don’t know that we have a bank.” -Kim

If you are looking around for insurance, this is definitely an office you want to familiarize yourself with. If you find water in your basement, this is an insurance company you would want to be covered by.
